Fire Cupping has been a part of Chinese Medicine for over 2,500 years. It relieves aches and pains, reduce muscle tension, improves circulation, and support the body's natural healing process. I simply place a specialized glass cups on the skin and creating a vacuum using a small flame to remove the oxygen inside the cup. This gentle suction lifts the skin and underlying tissue, encouraging blood flow to the area and helping to release stagnation.
What to expect during a Fire Cupping session
During your session, I’ll briefly light a flame inside each cup to create suction, then place the cups on your skin—usually on the back, shoulders, or other areas that need support. You might feel a warm, pulling sensation that many people describe as oddly relaxing. The cups usually stay on for about 3 to 10 minutes, depending on your condition and comfort level.
Afterward, you’ll likely have round marks where the cups were placed. These aren’t bruises—they’re a sign of increased circulation and typically fade within a few days to a week.
Things to Know
Fire cupping is very safe when performed by a trained practitioner, but it’s not completely risk-free. You might experience:
Circular marks or skin discoloration that fade over time
Mild tenderness or soreness afterward
Rarely, skin irritation or blistering, especially if your skin is sensitive
If you have a bleeding disorder, open wounds, or any skin condition, please let me know—we’ll either skip cupping or adjust the treatment for your safety and comfort.
Gua Sha is a traditional East Asian healing technique I use to gently release tension, move stagnation, and support the body’s natural detox process. It involves using a smooth-edged tool—often made of jade, horn, ceramic or coin—to scrape along the skin in specific areas, usually where there’s tightness, pain, or sluggish circulation.
In Vietnamese and Chinese medicine, Gua Sha is used to "release wind" (giải phong) and clear heat or blockages from the body. It can be deeply relieving, especially if you’re feeling achy, tense, or under the weather.
What you can expect
During your session, I'll apply a little herbal oil or balm to the skin. I then use a smooth round-edged Gua Sha tool to apply short, firm strokes along the muscles area. Common areas include the neck, back, shoulders, or limbs—wherever your body is holding tension. This creates red or purple patches of skin (called "Sha"); detoxifying your blood and restoring the healthy flow if Qi (energy) to the area. There is no pain involved, and the Sha will fade in3 to 5 days. But the sense of health and vitality you experience from it will last much longer.
What Gua Sha can help with:
Muscle tightness and stiffness
Headaches and neck pain
Early stages of cold or flu
Fatigue or general sluggishness
Tension held from stress or emotional overwhelm
Things to Know:
Gua Sha is safe and very effective when done correctly. That said, you might experience:
Temporary redness or mild bruising where the tool was used
Slight soreness in the treated area
Some fatigue or emotional release afterward as your body processes the treatment
If you’re taking blood thinners, have a bleeding disorder, or sensitive skin, just let me know—I'll adjust the treatment to keep it gentle and appropriate for you.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese herbal medicine is a deeply rooted healing tradition that’s been practiced for over 2,000 years. Unlike Western medicine, which often focuses on symptom management, Chinese herbology works by supporting the body’s natural self-healing abilities—restoring balance, strengthening vitality, and addressing the root cause of illness.
At Viet TCM Clinic, I primarily use patent herbal formulas in capsule or powder form, which are convenient, easy to take, and highly effective. Every formula I prescribe is carefully chosen based on your specific condition, constitution, and health goals. Because no two people are alike, I may also customize your formula by combining herbs that work together in harmony to target your unique needs.
I only prescribe professional-grade, high-quality herbal products that are tested for purity and safety, and available exclusively to licensed practitioners. Whether we’re working on digestive issues, stress, sleep, hormonal balance, or immune support, herbal medicine can be a gentle yet powerful part of your care plan.
What to Expect During an Herbal Consultation
During your herbal appointment, I’ll take time to understand your full health picture—physical symptoms, emotional well-being, diet, sleep, lifestyle, and more. From there, I’ll match you with a formula that supports your overall health while addressing your specific concerns.
Pricing for Herbs
Please note that the price of herbal products is NOT included in the service fee for the consultation. The cost of the herbs will be discussed during your appointment and varies depending on the formula and quantity needed.
Are There Risks?
Chinese herbs are generally very safe when prescribed correctly and sourced from reputable suppliers. However, side effects can happen, especially if an incorrect formula is used or if herbs interact with medications. I always review your health history thoroughly to minimize any risk.
Be sure to let me know about any medications you’re taking or allergies you may have.
